With this beautiful British summer (touch wood it stays like this for all of August. Come on sun, we need you!) it’s a shame not to make the most of the lovely weather and head to one of the many local parks and have a good, old-fashioned picnic! A lot more glamorous than a packed lunch, or eating some prepared sarnie, the perfect picnic requries a little bit of planning and a little bit of fun to be a real hit!
The right pîcnic blanket is a must! We are taking fashion inspiration from traditional gingham check and matching our shoes to this quaint pattern, but really anything to protect your bottom from the rogue wet patch of grass (or even worse – rabbit poo) is essential. When the temperature dips and the nights get cooler, picnic blankets can double up as improntu rugs or shawls for those of you have forgotten to pack a cardy, so look to pack a rug that isn’t toooo musty! It goes without saying, but snuggling on picnic rug is oh so romantic, so why not bring your loved one to the park for a surprise picnic date?
Like all good events, picnics revolve around food, glorious food. Make a picnic hamper filled with your favourite things to eat, like strawberries and cream, mini sandwiches, biscuits and fruit salad. We think these Irregular choice shoes are just like a little wicker picnic basket, and super adorable with their gingham print and red bow! Bringing your own knives and forks and little plates is the perfect (posh!) touch to any picnic, and once the fun is ended you can just pack them away to take home, wash, and use again! Eco-friendly and classy!
We think any bit of lush green grass is worthy enough for a picnic party, so if you are finding it hard to find a local park, why not try your back garden? Using your own garden will let you have fun with decorating, so bring out the fairy lights, MP3 speakers and cushions and get cosy!
We think the right pair of picnic shoes should be cute and playful, with a little bit of practicality to navigate any uneven ground! We tend to feel comfier in midi skirts and jeans than short shorts and skirts, as from experience, flashing your undies at everyone as you sit down can be a bit embarassing!
Most importantly, have fun! If you want to roll on the grass and watch the clouds do it. If you’d rather play rounders between mouthfuls of pie, do it! All we say is make the most of this glorious British sun and get out there!
