Hot spots in my hood: Eleanor’s guide to a night out in Paris
0 comment(s)
When I first came to Paris, I was all about exploring the bars and clubs across the city, but since settling into my life here I’ve become very Parisienne, adopting a reluctance to move outside of my quartier. But when you live in the 11eme, one of the most hyped areas in town, why would you go anywhere else?!
Here’s my guide to the hotspots in my hood:
Le Kitch
Living up to its name, this tiny bar is all about the quirk. With an eclectic mix of items decorating the walls (including a garden gnome, a stone Easter egg and a Shrek mask), this bar pulls in all the 11eme’s coolest fashionistas (myself included, obvo
). Sipping on the house cocktails and listening to laid back beats, the style is casual yet eccentric, think neon espadrilles and canvas pumps for this hang out. Address: 10, Rue Oberkampf.
Nouveau Casino
If you’re looking for a place to really get down, then Nouveau Casino should be top of your list. With live concerts during the week and huge club nights at the weekend, it’s free before 1am and plays a fantastic range of music, including Electro, Disco, Rap, Hip-hop and Pop. Heels are by no means out of place at this venue, but it you really want to dance, I’d suggest a pair of wedges to maximize on style and comfort! Address: 109 Rue Oberkampf.
L’international
L’international is a no frills, here-for-a-good-time sort of venue with live bands playing most evenings, followed by a club night. What it perhaps lacks in style, it definitely makes up for in music, last time I was there it played an aaammmazing mix of 60’s music including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys! Nobody pays any attention to what you’re wearing at this venue so whether you go in flip flops or 4 inch heels is very much up to you. Address: 5/7 Rue Moret.
Alimentation Générale
Alimentation Générale is like no place I have ever been, in Paris or otherwise. It costs 10 Euros (including a drink) at the weekends but is worth every penny to listen to the South American beats in a lively atmosphere. To salsa the night away, a kitten heel is essential footwear. Address: 64 Rue Jean-Timbaud.
Ave Maria
A Brazilian bar, this place is known for its crazy décor, amazing food and delicious cocktails. Definitely worth starting your night here, but get down early as it fills up really quickly. Stylish yet understated, a wedge or a pump would be my footwear of choice for this gorgeous location. Address: 1, Rue Jaquare.
The Canal/ Café Bonnie/ Chez Prune
Canal Saint Martin is the perfect place to hang out in summer. Pick up some beers at the supermarket and head down to listen to musicians playing in a buzzing atmosphere. If you want to head into a bar round the canal try Chez Prune or Café Bonnie.
