Sarenza Street Style: The Mariniere Top

You know those Parisian stereotypes that we British have of people on bicycles, carrying baguettes and looking chic in coffee shops? It turns out they’re all actually true.

Another classic Parisian stereotype that actually exists is the classic striped blue and white top, which is a staple in wardrobes for both women and men all over Paris.

Since its creation in the early twenties, the top, otherwise known as The “Mariniere” has been adopted by French fashion icons and celebrities alike and is even the away kit for the French footie team!

The great thing about the “Mariniere” is that it suits just about anyone and adds a certain “je ne sais quoi” to any outfit, regardless of personal style, so in homage to Paris’s favourite design, my Sarenza street style pick this week is not just one, but a host of fashion savvy Sarenza employees who over the course of the last week have ALL been seen sporting the top.  (N.B, not all pics were actually taken on the “street”.  Much like England, the Parisian summer weather is often pretty temperemental and stops you from doing fun things outdoors)

Stephanie, who works for our Communications team, is quite possibly the most adorable member of staff here at Sarenza and has matched her top with a pair of cutesy pumps. If you have quite a girly style too then I’d recommend going for a pair of Valensi pumps (as seen on our Blogger Ambassador Jen from A Little Bird Told Me!)

Chic Cynthia

Chic Cynthia

Oh la la check out this French chic! Our Assistant International Buyer Cynthia always looks so sleek and stylish. If you’re looking to channel a bit of French glam, then why not match your stripy top with a pair of killer Cosmoparis heels and skinny jeans, just like Cynthia.

Rathsamy our Site Marketing Assistant has a fun and bubbly personality and that’s reflected in her style. Here, she’s is beautifully modelling her version of the top, which has sparkly detail on the shoulder, making it unique. To get her look I’d match a baggy stripy white and blue top with a bright pair of Converse.
