Cool Brittania

Once upon a time women cared about fashion and the majority of men looked like they were dressed by their mothers. Oh how the times have changed! These days men are giving their female counterparts a run for their money in the style stakes and it’s fair to say that fashion as a women’s domain is well and truly a thing of the past. Today I’m paying homage to great British men’s style with a selection of home grown labels for you to feast your eyes upon.
Oh the quintessential Brogue; so good that women have been trying to get in on the action for the past few seasons. In Cedar Calf (supposedly) with black stitching, this Windsor pair from Barker are hand crafted and represent the English shoe tradition at its best.
Base London was founded in 1995 and since then have had a huge impact on the men’s footwear market. Generally targeting a younger audience, they add fun twists to classic styles. Case in point: The Gatsby shoe, in Nubuck Brown but with a soft red sole.
It is almost impossible to discuss British men’s footwear without mentioning Clarks. Yes, your great-grandad, grandad and dad all probably wore Clarks, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they are past it! Clarks have stayed true to their classic aesthetic over the years and as such have continued to produce well cut, wearable shoes, at a reasonable price tag. This Crafting shoe is also available in black.
Without doubt the slickest shoe of the bunch, this Duncan pair from Patrick Cox are fashion and know it. While not technically being British, Patrick Cox’s original inspirations were the Queen and British rock ‘n roll so I think it’s fair to claim him.
The H by Hudson brand combine great British style with Italian craftsmanship to produce some near perfect footwear. This suede pair in tan are the ideal weekend shoe.
