One of the biggest new catwalk trends for summer is the return of the chunky wooden sole. Most of us haven’t seen or worn a wooden heel since the 90s but this is a completely different take.

Two of the most influential designers, Karl Lagerfeld and Marc Jacobs, showed a variety of clogs in their  ranges. Gone are the Scholl references; these are serious high chunky heels worn with dresses and trousers alike. Alexa Chung, always an early adopter, wears one of them on this month’s cover of British Vogue.

However, as both ranges start at the £500-mark, I have been scanning for alternatives. These Vialis clogs certainly fit the bill: made from the softest tan or black leather, they have a solid construction and a ‘wear-all-day’ 7-cm heel. If you’re looking for something that brings together the wooden heel and sportif trends, these mesh Mellow Yellow shoes might be the answer.

Being a few inches shorter than I’d like, I’m always on the lookout for a comfortable and supportive shoe with a chunky heel. I can’t wait to wear mine with a white peasant-sleeve blouse and faded denim.
